Travelling to Alaska last year for my winter vacation with a few friends and their family and my wife and two kids. Since with like fishing and rafting we decided to stay in Chickaloon for our winter vacation. There many good hotel and cabin over there and you can decided which the best to you as I love cozy and the beautiful breeze we book three cabin where we can rest and sleep after the end of the day advencture. The tours we book are inclusive of meals and the exciting area.

Chickaloon is located within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, northeast of Sutton at Milepost 76 of the Glenn Highway. As Chickloon is surrounded with its beautiful mountain where you can do some of your hicking advencture and is flanked by the mighty Matanusta river where rafting is one of the hobby to the resident, holidays makers and the adventures people. We enjoy doing the afternoon rafting with one instructors follows on the trips.

Besides rafting, Chickloon is famous for bass fishing and it one of the central attraction for people and bass fishing clubs to do thier bass fishing. We will given a boat with one of his people and we really enjoy the cooling wheather, the beautiful surrounding scenary and the whole day fishing.

Ever think of going for a winter vacation in Europe or United State. I am staying in a tropicals country with all year around sun and rain. Last december I decided to go for a winter vacation with my wife to Colorado USA. This is the first time we planned our vacation during winter time as I love to watch people ski or a skidding compitation and winter olampic on television.

Colorado is filled with many and beautiful ski resorts, it has his own beauty to tell. I can remmember the winter park with its enchanting mountain and pine trees cover with white snow and watching children building snow people and throwing snow ball at each other. Adults, young and old enjoying skidding and snowboard, professional is showing their skill. If you are first timer there is someone to guide you and give you some basis training. I enjoy myself and its fun to ski for the first time. I planned to return the next winter.

Others that we enjoy are the landscape inside a protected snowcat and our tour leader takes us around on a snowshoe tour of the backcountry. During lunch time our leader will take us up to Sunspot Summit restaurants on the Zephyr Express chairlift. The ride was beautiful as we can watch from the top and admired the beautiful white landscape. The money I spend on a cold weather winter vacation at winter park its readly enjoyarable.

LAWRENCE - At 17, Tan Nguyen is no Doogie Howser.
But he'd sure like to be.

Nguyen, a senior at Central Catholic High School, spent part of his summer working in a hospital where he was allowed to shadow a doctor, observe an operation, and learn the ins and outs of modern medicine.

"It was a wonderful experience," said the Haverhill teen. "It gave me an outlook on what they do while opening more doors for me."

Nguyen is one of 24 teenagers from across the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire who participated in the Shadow-a-Professional Program at Lawrence General Hospital.

During the six-week program, teenagers worked in a dozen departments at the hospital, including the nursery, pain management, physical therapy, the pharmacy and the emergency room. They shadowed nurses, doctors and technicians.

Nguyen was assigned to the pain management department and followed Dr. Rami Rustum, staff anesthesiologist and pain specialist at the hospital.

"I wasn't like a shadow walking behind him. I was actually learning," Nguyen said. "There wasn't a moment when I did not want to be there."

He not only interacted with Rustum, but was able to witness an operation up close. He was one of six students who were able to do so.

Nguyen applied for the shadow program to learn more about the medical field since he hopes to be either an anesthesiologist or a surgeon.

"Medicine interests me because I am curious about the human body and how it functions when it's exposed to diseases and chemicals," he said. "Surgery interests me because I am curious about the procedures."

He said taking part in the shadow program reinforced his desire to enter the medical field.

"The experience made me realize I can do this for the rest of my life," Nguyen said. "It doesn't seem to be so stressful all the time. The schedule did not bother me."

Others, such as Connie Cheng of Andover and Lauren Drapeau, both 17, were not too sure.

Cheng, 17, who also shadowed Rustum, made a U-turn after finishing the program. Instead of working in a hospital, the Andover High School senior decided pharmacology was best suited for her.

Drapeau, a senior at Central Catholic, volunteered in the X-ray department, but realized she likes working with children.

"This is not only about observing patients with a student or a potential doctor," Rustum said. "They are learning what obstacles can arise, how to overcome them, and even what to expect in medical school."

To qualify for the program, high school juniors and seniors submit an essay outlining the reasons why they want to participate, what profession they hope to pursue, and what they would like to learn from the experience.

The students also go through an interview process.

Betsy Rayner, director of volunteers at the hospital, looks for confidence, passion, drive and motivation when choosing a participant.

One applicant was so interested in participating, he spent his winter vacation doing research on orthopedic surgery.

Students can intern in several departments, including special care nursery, pain management, pathology, pharmacy, radiology and ultrasound.

Rayner said 14 of the 24 applicants this year wanted to work in the nursery, followed by the emergency room and surgery. The pharmacy was another popular department with five applicants as opposed to one or two last year.

"I think the students want to work in the emergency room because they watch shows like "ER" and see all the stuff that happens and want to see the excitement," Rayner said. "They want to see the crisis, the chaos, and the chance of saving a life right then and there."

The students commit to 12 hours a week for six weeks. In addition to shadowing a doctor or other hospital staff member, they must volunteer for four hours in another department in the hospital.

Rayner said she has seen the program mushroom in the eight years she's been running it.

"I think the program is popular because they see what goes in a hospital every day in and out, during the tough days and good days," she said.

Over the years, Rayner said former participants have become doctors, nurses and pharmacists.

She doesn't even mind if a student changes his mind about entering the medical field. This summer, three of the 24 participants chose another career path.

"It's OK. I'd rather have them find out now than later when it may be too late," she said.

Nguyen, a member of the National Honor Society at Central, is holding on to his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.

"I want to be a doctor so I can help people, save lives, alleviate people's problems and pains," he said. "I want to make a difference in society."

"Today, many winter vacationers are looking to stay where they can take advantage of a number of experiences, on and off the slopes — a 'multi-faceted winter vacation.'"

Part of a diverse vacation includes visiting a number of ski and snowboard resorts, and the Salt Lake CVB steps up to the plate to fulfill that need with its Ski Salt Lake Super Pass. Now in its ninth season, the Super Pass is good for day passes at the four Cottonwood Canyons resorts: Alta, Snowbird, Brighton or Solitude. The pass can be loaded with up to six days of skiing or riding and also includes free round-trip transportation from downtown and suburban Salt Lake via UTA ski buses and throughout the Salt Lake Valley on Trax light rail. Depending on how many days are purchased, users can ski Salt Lake for as little as $48 a day.

Eric Thompson, Salt Lake CVB Director of Marketing and mastermind behind the Super Pass, says, “The Super Pass allows guests to ski where they want, when they want—all at a very attractive and affordable price. It’s the perfect one-stop shopping approach to skiing Salt Lake.”

The Super Pass is sold through local Salt Lake Valley lodging properties and is frequently packaged in conjunction with lodging specials. The Super Pass is also sold online in cooperation with Travelocity.

Located just 40 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport, the resorts average 500 inches of snow each year and collectively offer more than 7,500 skiable acres serviced by 33 ski lifts. Says Jay Burke, Director of Marketing and Media Relations for Solitude Mountain Resort, “We’ve got the best of all worlds. Unbeatable snow and nearly instant access to the resorts from the city make Salt Lake an easy choice for winter sports enthusiasts everywhere.”

The Salt Lake City International Airport has over 990 scheduled daily flights offering more than 84,000 daily airplane seats through Salt Lake. Delta Airlines alone has 108 non-stop flights servicing Salt Lake, allowing more than half of the U.S. population to reach Salt Lake City in less than two and a half hours.

Proximity, however, doesn't translate to crowding on the slopes. According to a study conducted by Ski Utah, there are approximately 153 skiers per acre at Utah resorts — fewer than half the 323 per acre in Colorado.

As part of new Homeland Security Department rules, for the first time ever, you will be required to have a passport to re-enter the United States if you fly or cruise into Mexico, Canada, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda starting Jan. 1, 2007.

Starting Jan. 1, 2008 you'll need a passport to cross the Canadian or Mexican border by car.

It's no wonder the government expects to issue a record 12 million passports this year. Nationwide there's been a 25 percent increase in the number of passports applied for this year compared to last.

It typically takes 6 to 8 weeks to get your passport back, but the government is now saying it could take longer than two months because of the increased demand. So if you are planning any winter vacations, it's in your best interest to apply early. You can pay an extra $60 to expedite the process.

What You Need
To apply for a passport you need a certified birth certificate or your naturalization papers, a driver's license and a picture. You'll also need to fill out an application form.

The total cost for a person age 16 and older is around $100, but different cities charge different fees to process the picture. A passport for children under age 16 runs about $82.

The beaches of Barcelona — the Costa Encantada ("Enchanted Coast") at Lloret de Mar, 40 miles south of Barcelona on the Spanish Mediterranean — have suddenly become a winter-vacation option for American retirees.
Though the weather of Barcelona from November through March is a bit chillier than farther down the Spanish coast, the proximity of this remarkable city with its extraordinary culture is a decided plus. And the prices offered by an aggressive American tour operator have made beachside Barcelona a worthy competitor to the better-known winter vacations of the Costa del Sol near Malaga on Spain's southernmost Mediterranean coast.

For nearly 25 years now, American tour operators — Sun Holidays of Orlando, Fla., (www.sunholidaytours.com, 1-800-422-8000) and Grand Circle Tours of Boston (www. grandcircletravel.com, 1-800-959-0405) — have vied with each other to lure Americans over age 60 to winter vacations on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. The great attraction has been cost. For just slightly less than $1,000 per person for two weeks and $1,200 and up for three weeks, including round-trip trans-Atlantic airfare, they have been offering fall/winter vacations spent in the many high-rise Spanish hotels that line the Costa del Sol around Torremolinos and Fuengirola, near Malaga and Gibraltar.
That price has persuaded tens of thousands of mature Americans to substitute Spain for a winter vacation in Miami Beach or Phoenix. Though it certainly isn't swimming weather in Spain in the fall/winter months, ocean swimming isn't a popular activity among elderly people anyway, and the high quality of Spain's hotels, cuisine, culture and sightseeing near Malaga (Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Gibraltar) has tipped the scales for a great many Americans.

A journey to europe is the holiday of a lifetime. Limitless sites and attractions are waiting throughout the continent. The prices and the weather are the major elements in deciding the prime travel periods.

A good compromise is to choose the period before and after the busy summer season, because the weather is mostly good and prices are lower. Southern europe also offers a nice experience in the winter, with reasonably mild weather.

If nice weather is important to you, the winter is one of the worst times to see northern Europe. Gray, wet and cold weather is common December through February. And daylight is in short supply, so evenings will be spent primarily indoors.

However, winter travel offers the best prices. Italy or Greece would be good choices if you are limited to a winter vacation.

There are some other benefits to winter travel. Winter festivals and New Year's are exciting times in Europe. Cities such as Paris are beautiful when decorated for the Christmas holidays. The "Land of the Midnight Sun" has always been an amazing source of raw, rugged beauty and many think of alaska only as a great summertime vacation destination. On the other hand, if you like to ski you may want to consider alaska when planning your next ski vacation because it has some of the best skiing in the world.

And one of the top resorts in all of alaska is the alyeska Resort. alyeska has a top elevation slightly above 2,700 feet, a vertical drop of 2,500 and the area gets an average annual snowfall of 631 inches.

In addition to offering some of the best skiing in the world, another nice benefit of alyeska is that you won't run into long lift lines or overly crowded slopes. There are nine lifts, including six chair lifts, two surface lifts and one cable car line. The majority of their trails are designed for the intermediate skier but with 68 trails they also have countless runs for both the beginner and expert.

Night skiing is not only allowed but it may be one of most awe inspiring ski experiences you'll ever have. Snow capped mountains, hanging glaciers and the infamous Northern Lights are just a few of the visual bonuses of night skiing at Alyeska. It was ranked number nine in Skiing Magazine's annual top twenty-five killer ski trip reviews.

The season begins in mid November and runs through mid April at alyeska and with close to sixteen hours of daylight each day during April, this area of alaska boasts the longest period of daylight anywhere in the United States. On the other hand, in December, there are only about seven hours of daylight but with their fabulous night time skiing it's really not an issue.

The alyeska Prince Hotel is the wonderful place to stay. You'll enjoy elegant rooms, fine dining and nightly entertainment is also available. In addition, there are other nightlife watering holes in the area that are not associated with the hotel.

If tubing interests you, then visiting the Glacier Tubing Park is an absolute must. It features two lanes of terrain and a surface lift and everyone in the family will enjoy spending time at the tubing park. The alyeska Terrain Park is a must for snowboarding enthusiasts. Other winter activities that can be enjoyed in and around the alyeska resort include flight seeing, heliskiing, ocean cruising tours, dog sledding, ice climbing, back country skiing, mountaineering and polar bear watching tours.

Often, when people think of fabulous ski winter vacations or summertime getaways filled with scenic alpine beauty, they consider the regular cast of characters but overlook a perfectly pleasing choice. Utah, particularly Park City, is one of the best places to enjoy winter sports (just ask the Olympians of the world) and when the weather warms up, you’ll find no sweeter sights than those provided while hiking through the state parks or trotting through the lush valleys on horseback.

Park City is nearly overflowing with vacation possibilities in a way that will satisfy travelers with all kinds of needs and interests. Ski lovers will enjoy the 350 inches of snow that falls per year, as well as the 3,300 skiable acres. Nothing compares to an early morning thrill ride down the tallest mountain you can find, if that’s your style, that is. If you’re more of a beginner, you’ll certainly learn to love the slopes if Park City’s dry powder and groomed trails are there to give you your first lessons. True adventurers can even be dropped off by helicopter or snowcat to embrace acres of untouched terrain as their very own.

But non-skiers should not despair. From sleigh rides to tubing, snowshoeing to snowmobiling, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the crisp mountain air without participating in the most traditional activity. Stray from the well-traveled paths if you like, and strike out on an adventure of your own design.

If you paid attention to the world’s affairs during 2002, you’ll remember that the Winter Olympics were held here in Utah. The pride of hosting this prestigious event still emanates from the mountains, and the impressive Olympic Park that was used for many competitions is still being used as an athletic training ground.

Visitors are welcomed to watch the experts in action, tour the two museums on the premises, or even hop into a bobsled and see what it feels like to experience 4G’s at 80 miles an hour. What to Wear:
On the mountain: Winter weather at Tremblant can change in the blink of an eye. Visitors should come prepared for all conditions. To avoid frostbite when temperatures plummet with the wind chill factor, it is extremely important to cover any exposed skin.

In the Village:
Anything goes. Temperatures are much more moderate at the base of the mountain in the resort Village, but guests should be prepared for all weather conditions. Our shops, restaurants and bars are cosy and loaded with apr鑣-ski warmth. Good walking shoes and/or boots with rubber soles are highly recommended for strolling through the alpine Village.

When in Tremblant

The early birds get the snow!

Chambery, located in the heart of the French Alps is the once capital of Savoie. It sits just near Lac du Bourget (Bourget Lake), looked upon by the Alps that surround it. Chambery is a city that can be both visited in the summer and your winter vacation. In the winter there are a number of ski resorts within easy driving distance. In the summer those same Alps that were skied, become hiking and backpacking trails and campgrounds.

The center of Chambery is the ‘old town’ it includes a Chateau, once the residence of the dukes of Savoie, a 15th century Cathedral and a fine arts museum. There is also a ‘Fontaine des Elephants’ (Elephants Fontaine) built in honor of the Comte de Boigne, who bestowed upon the city much wealth. A large portion of his personal wealth came from India, hence the Elephant Fontaine.

The center of Chambery offers not only tourist attractions but also many shops for buying your favorite French goods. If you are lucky it might be market day and you can buy some fresh local produce. Like so many cities in France Chambery is not only charming, it is also small enough to be walked comfortably. You will be able to see the center without getting sore feet! But if you do have that fear there is a tourist ‘train’ that will take you through the center and let you visit with as little walking as possible.

Chambery makes a good base for exploring the French Alps especially during the winter as it is within easy driving distance of such ski resort towns as Grenoble, Albertville, La Clusaz, Courchevel, Alpe d’Huez, Chamonix and Val d’Isère. In the summer other outdoor activities are possible including hiking and camping. As Chambery is close to three national parks, Parc national de la Vanoise, Parc Naturel Régional de Chartreuse and Parc Naturel Régional du Massif des Bauges. Other close natural attractions include, Lac du Bourget and Lac d’Aiguebelette. Two other popular summer lakes are Annecy Lake, within an hour’s drive and Lake Geneva, two hours’ drive.

Getting to Chambery is easy as it has a modern airport; the official name is Aéroport de Chambéry. The airport code is CMF. At the moment there are a number of ‘no thrills’ airlines like Flybe and Jet2.com that have regular service to Chambery. These ‘no thrills’ airlines fly from selected major European destinations like Amsterdam and Bruxelles along with such UK destinations as, Birmingham, Exeter, Manchester and Southampton.

Chambery can also be accessed by car from the A41 Autoroute Exit 13, Chambery Nord. Chambery is a little over an hour’s drive from Lyon and about a seven hour drive from Paris. Chambery also has train access. If you plan on coming from Paris the best thing to do is take the TGV (high speed train), it only takes about an hour and a half and then transfer to a regional train in Lyon that goes to Chambery.

Chambery can also be used as a base to visit other European cities and countries like Geneva, Switzerland and Turin in Italy. Each are within in a two hour drive.

Have you thought about a Colorado vacation this year? During the summer, Colorado blooms with wonderful sites and outdoor adventures. And it's hiking that tops the summer activities on a Colorado vacation. While most people think of winter and skiing when they think of vacationing in Colorado you should know that Colorado is known as a summer destination too.

There are so many things to do and places to see in this centrally located state. Colorado is such a varied destination. You can enjoy the rolling plains on the eastern side of the state, mountains and valleys in central Colorado, and mesas and buttes in the west. In every area, there are hiking trails to get you into the remote places that most people miss from there cars.

Hiking is a family favorite when vacationing in Colorado. There are many easy hikes that don't demand more than a couple of hours to complete. Other hikes can take the whole day, while there are even long-distant, camping hikes you can partake in. It doesn't matter if you're a couch potato, from the city, or an athlete, when you come to Colorado you will want to get out of your car and enjoy the abundance of views that Colorado has to offer.

While hiking in Colorado, you will be able to enjoy seeing a myriad of wildlife and wildflowers. This is what Colorado is noted for in the summer months. There are numerous public lands that make a nature hike possible to your family.

Little Causeway lake in the idyllic Flat Tops Wilderness Area is a nice three mile round-trip hike in the Northwest portion of Colorado. Little Causeway Lake sits just below the buttressed walls of the Devils Causeway. This is an extraordinary fin of volcanic rock that connects two high alpine mesas.

The short hiking trail passes though wildflower-filled clearings and arrives at the tranquil Causeway Lake. This area is home to beavers, ducks woodpeckers, and elk. You will love watching the wildlife and viewing the colorful wildflowers in the area.

For a longer day hike you might want to visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park. The only path you will follow through the Great Sand Dunes are the footprints of the hikers that just preceded you. You might not even find their footprints if the wind has come up and erased them.

This wilderness of sand covers 33,000 acres and rewards hikers with a sublime and majestic isolation among the towering sand dunes that are constantly changing with each breeze. After reaching and descending the first dune, you will imagine that you are in the Middle East.

It is a two mile hike through the dunes, but on arrival back to the visitor center you will be greeted by the refreshing river that flows at the base of the dunes. Children love playing in the river as it is like spending a day at the beach. The sand backs up water and makes the river pulsate with waves.

When you're looking for a hiking expedition while on your Colorado vacation, you might want to do a long-distance jaunt. Long distance hikes are intended for the gonzo backpackers. A long-distance trail in Colorado is very strenuous but, because you will be camping along the way, they can be experienced in segments. An example of a hiking expedition is:

The Gore Range Trail, which is outside of Vail, runs 55 miles down the entire length of the Gore Range. Those vacationers that have skied Vail, Copper Mountain, or Keystone in the winter have experienced moments of inspiration created by the spectacular views of the rugged granite peaks of the Gore Range. In the summer, these peaks of the Gore Range provide the best, easy-access backpacking in Colorado.

The Gore Range Trail ascends over one magnificent mountain pass after another. With each mountain crest, the trail descends into lush valleys ablaze with wildflowers. If you want to backpack hike this trail, plan your Colorado vacation for at least two weeks. You can shorten the hike though by hiking to Wheeler Lakes from a trailhead at Copper Mountain.

You will be hiking from 8,700 feet to 12,000 feet along the Gore Range Trail. Remember that this is a leave-no-trace area and you should stay on the trail at all times. Take only photographs and leave no footprints.

Fourteen years ago, my husband and I visited the island of Barbados on a cruise ship. Barbados is the farthest island of the Caribbean chain, and once we stepped off the ship, our love affair with the island started.

Being a travel consultant, I had read up on the island, and the images of "flying fish" and "green monkeys" stirred my imagination. Also the fact that there is nothing but water separating Barbados and the coast of Africa meant we were going to truly be in the West Indies, and close to the equator. That alone was enough for a sun and beach lover!

When our ship docked, we opted to take an island cruise via taxi. Four hours later, we had covered the island's coastline from the calm waters of the west coast on the Caribbean Sea, to the raging Atlantic coast on the east, and the lively south coast. You just have to love an island that offers a completely different experience on all coasts. When the cruise ship pulled out to sea, I can remember having a longing for an island that I had only experienced for a day.

Upon returning home, we started planning a land based trip to the island. Being a beach lover, we made reservations for the next year on west coast of the island. I remembered the water being glassy calm, and longed to spend lazy days at the beach. The west coast attracts the rich and famous, and is home to fabulous homes, hotels and villas. This coastline is located on the Caribbean Sea, and the water is perfect for snorkeling and swimming. Fine dining is a fact of life, and Barbados is known for some of the best restaurants in the world.

As we started to meet other vacationers, we quickly learned that most of them had been to the island many times before. I found this unusual, since most Caribbean vacationers opt to experience new islands. What was even more surprising, many of the English and Canadian visitors spend the entire winter season on the island every year. It certainly made us "short termers" with our two week vacation.

My curiosity about these long term repeat winter vacations prompted me to ask why they returned year after year. Their answers centered around the friendly locals, variety of lodging that caters to long term visitors, sunny weather, great food and a standard of living that is conducive to making the island a second winter home.

After a week of being beach bums, we ventured out to the southern coast, and found the St Lawrence Gap. As we walked the mile long Gap area, I knew this would be our future spot on the island each year. The west coast is rather sedate, and spread out compared to the lively south coast. We found more than 20 restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, shopping, and a great beach all in one area. We could hardly contain ourselves til next years vacation. The love affair with Barbados was in full swing.

Thirteen years later, we are still in love. The same driver picks us up at the airport each year, and welcomes us back home. As timeshare members, we have made many friends over the years. Who would have thought that fourteen years ago we would have English, Canadian, Danish and Bajan friends that we keep in touch with throughout the year, and can't wait to see each winter season.

As soon as winter hits here in the Midwest, I have thoughts of eating flying fish and seeing the green monkeys playing outside our balcony in the morning. Do the fish really fly? Well, they skim over the water, and they do have wings. Are the monkeys really green? Their color could best be described as a combination of green, brown and yellow.

The real reality is the sun shines brighter, the water is like a warm bath, and some of the most friendly people occupy this 160 mile paradise. I feel safe there, and unfortunately gain weight each year eating great food from one side of the island to the other. And when I get a travel request for Barbados, I can hardly contain my excitement telling a client all the inns and outs of the island.

This is a brief story about a love affair with an island, and its people. At times I feel guilty about not having the same feeling about the other islands I've visited in the Caribbean. After all, I am a Caribbean travel consultant, and I am not supposed to be partial to just one island. I love all of the Caribbean islands, but I'm in love with Barbados.

Breckenridge has become the most sought after winter vacation destination in America.

Apart form winters Breckenridge lodging also offers many a activity during the summer and the spring seasons that include camping, hiking, trailing, fly fishing etc. in addition to social activities like the annual music festival and the snow sculpting competitions.

Breckenridge today has over 500 places of accommodation, over 200 restaurants, about 40 bars, pubs and clubs in town in addition to those on the skiing slopes. This small mining town has grown to being one of the major tourist attractions across the globe.

Getting to Breckenridge is very easy. It is just a simple drive form Denver. Moreover free rides are available all across the Summit country making it very easy to access Breckenridge and the adjoining towns.

Lodging at Breckenridge is of the glorious variety. Small, big, cheap, luxurious, expensive, you name the category and you can get the lodgings of your choice. However, booking early has become very important to get the right lodging that suits your needs. The lodging at Breckenridge is very comfortable with most amenities built into the quarters. The service is of the highest standards irrespective of the price, since the inhabitants of Breckenridge are known for their hospitality and environmental friendliness.

Finding suitable lodging at Breckenridge is not a problem at all. With the advent of the internet, it has become easy to find the lodging of your choice and budget. Many a lodgings also give you a overlook of their room sizes and amenities, so that you can select with ease. How can you keep warm in winter?

I remember the movie The Day After Tomorrow. Where the people were facing an ice age ahead, with temperatures so cold it could freeze your blood instantly.

Everyone was working hard on keeping warm. They were hiding in a library which was really convenient. You wouldn't run out of things to burn in a library that is full of books. In their effort to stay warm, they kept their fireplace ablaze by burning library books, feeding the fire continually for that much needed warmth.

A homeless guy who had to survive winter in the streets crushed up paper and stuffed his clothes with them for insulation. Insulate your clothing to keep the warmth in and the cold out. Crushing the paper trapped air. Air is a great insulator of heat. So that made a lot of sense.

When it comes to staying warm in winter, remember 2 things.

1. Generate heat.

2. Insulate to keep the heat in and the cold out.

To generate heat, most modern homes have a proper heating system. Just make sure you pay your heating bills. If you can't pay the bills, get your bills paid on your behalf. For example, if you are a U.S. resident, you can get free heating at http://www.cheapestsale.com/free-heating.html

If you use an old fashion log fireplace, stock up on plenty of firewood in case you get snowed in.

As for insulation, wear layers of clothing to keep warm. Start off with a base layer. The thermal underwear. Ideally, your thermal underwear should fit like second skin. The goal is to keep your body heat in. Pure cotton thermal underwear would probably work if the temperature is above 5 degrees celsius. Colder than that and you need something much warmer. Like wool.

On top of the thermal underwear, you might want to wear a wool sweater and thick denim jeans or wool pants. You might want to add on a warm jacket or even a trenchcoat over the sweater. Depending on the severity of cold you might face, you might want to add more layers. Don't forget your gloves, scarf, woolen hat, ear muffs, and boots. If it is really very cold, you might even need a ski mask.

Another trick that works for me and my kids is to apply a aromatherapy massage oil right after towelling dry after a hot bath. On a winter vacation, at the end of a day out in the cold, we were only too happy to get back to the hotel room where we would take turns in a hot bath. I would dilute 3 drops of mandarin oil in 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil like grapeseed oil or sweet almond oil and put in into the bath water. My kids loved it. I brought along some mandarin essential oil. I also made a massage oil by diluting 1 drop of mandarin oil to every 1 teaspoon of olive oil or sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil. After bathing each child, I'd rub him all over with plenty of this massage oil. When I ran out of mandarin oil, I used tea tree oil. The massage oil helped seal some warmth and moisture as the air was very dry.

Drinking a cup of ginger tea helps you body fight the cold too. Drinking plenty of hot soup at meals warms up the body beautifully.

Carry along a cashmere shawl, or at least a wool wrap with you so you can wrap that around you when you need additional warmth.

Finally, huddle up close to a loved warm so you can keep each other warm. That's how our ancestors survived the cold winters when they lived in caves. They would huddle close together near the fire to keep warm. By Janice Wee
